The Safesurgery® site has been developed to address a consistent problem facing patients and doctors across all disciplines. Doctors may not have time to adequately explain the risks and benefits of a procedure, or patients may not be able to take in all the information they are being given during a meeting with the doctor
With the SafeSurgery animations we give risk and benefit information to patients in a way that is easy to understand and can be played back as many times as needed by the patient and their support.
Whiteboard animations are a visually appealing and they also promote learning through text, pictures and audio. Studies have shown that whiteboard animations result in better learning than printed words or other types of videos.
The Founder: Dr. Sanjay Sharma
Dr. Sharma is an ophthalmologist and retina specialist. He is also a Professor of Ophthalmology and Epidemiology at Queen's University. He is the author of over 200 scientific articles that appear in the peer-reviewed literature and 3 books including the American Medical Association Press's Evidence-Based to Value-Based Medicine. Dr. Sharma, who has received over $1 million in research grants to study macular diseases has received awards from the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, the Canadian Foundation for Innovation and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Sharma has performed over 25,000 retina procedures and completed his medical training at Harvard University.
